National Teams

France has been a member of World Lacrosse since 2008, with the Men’s Field Lacrosse National Team competing in European and World Championships since, achieving their highest ever ranking of 18th in the world at the 2023 World Championships.

Men’s Sixes and Box teams made their first appearances in 2025 at the Eurolax tournament in Faro, Portugal and E-Box in Prague, Czechia respectively.

The first ever French Women’s lacrosse team made competed at the Women’s European Sixes Qualifiers in Faro, Portugal, March 2025. To date there is no women’s Field lacrosse team but a French women’s Box team is in the works.

All national teams are overseen by executive head coach Dylan Snyder, under whom a team of coaches operate to help develop each national program, team and individual players, as well as the overall growth of the game in France.

Player Selection and Application Process 2025/2026

Tryouts will be by invitation only, or by nomination from club presidents/leadership. Athletes already integrated into the AFL will be invited to try out based on past performances and discussions amongst the selection committee and coaches.

All athletes will be required to:

  1. Be paid up members of a French domestic club for the season in question

  2. Be paid up members of the AFL for the season in question

  3. Have paid an annual €100 national teams tryout fee to the AFL

  4. Attended Trial 1 or have special circumstance:

    a. Canadians in season during Trial 1

    b. French passport holders with documented high level lacrosse experience

New International Athletes will be required to:

  1. Provide a playing resume

  2. Provide proof of eligibility (French Passport)

  3. Interview with selection committee and/or coaches

  4. Comply with all existing eligibility criteria before first event attended (club membership, AFL dues, AFL tryout fee, WL Eligibility)

New Domestic Athletes will be required to:

  1. Provide a playing resume

  2. Provide proof of eligibility

  3. Comply with all existing eligibility criteria before first event attended (club membership, AFL dues, AFL tryout fee, WL Eligibility)

Selection Criteria (Priority of values after eligibility has been confirmed)

  1. Lacrosse playing ability/experience and fitness

  2. Participation in AFL events

  3. Contribution to growing the sport in France

  4. Country of habitation
